Cliff Notes to Bengals Free Agency

With free agency about to start in a matter of minutes, here is your cliff notes version of the Bengals free agency. We will get more in depth later today or tomorrow, but if you are looking for a big splash by the Bengals, you will be disappointed because: 1) the money they have under the cap is deceiving (they have a lot of free agents of their own both this year and next), 2) there isn’t a big free agent out there that is going to make a huge difference to the Bengals, and 3) big free agents splashes is just not how the Bengals role (BTW, neither do other good teams).

They won’t sign them (nor should they), so stop complaining:

  1. Mike Wallace
  2. Greg Jennings
  3.  Wes Welker
  4. Probably any WR
  5. Nnamdi Asomugha
  6. Darelle Revis
  7. Dwight Freeney

Who they will sign:

  1. There own (i.e. Andre Smith)

Sleeper names to keep an eye on

  1. Steven Jackson – they passed on him twice in the draft in order to take Chris Perry, maybe they come full circle.
  2. Takeo Spikes – Not as a starter, but as a backup. Provides leadership, depth, and potentioal stability at MLB.
  3. Charles Woodson – Could be the typical Zimmer project.
  4. Reggie Bush – Outside chance, but if the number is not high, it is possible.
  5. Ed Reed – Unlikely, but is a Marvin Guy and a Zimmer type.
  6. Beanie Wells - For a low price, he might be worth the risk.
